Employee Wellness Programs
Wellness programs in the office encourage employees to improve and maintain their health and over all well being. A healthy employee is more productive compared to an employee who is tired, stressed and always sick. Making wellness important in the office minimize employees from going on sick leave and at risk of major health issues like high blood pressure, diabetes and cardiac arrest.
Before starting a wellness program at work, we must first understand what the needs are of the employees in terms of health concerns and issues and fitness. Companies with a stressful environment may find employers going for a quick smoke break. You can make a survey regarding the major health concerns in the office and ask other employees to assist in starting a wellness program.
Identify the objective and goal of the program and make it measurable. You have to know what are trying to target and fix. You have to also know where you are in the program. You have to see results and see changes. This is to see if the program was indeed successful and that there are positive changes in the workplace. This change can be less employee absences and increase in employee engagement.
For the program to be successful, you need promote the program in the workplace. Email, bulletin board post, newsletters and group talks can do this. Getting the program out in the office place will raise awareness, interest and motivation to join such programs. A large number of employees need to join such programs to see changes happening and making the program successful.
Make wellness activities accessible in the office. You can set up yoga classes after office hours. Group classes will encourage friends in the office to take advantage of such activity. Also, the company can think about setting up a fitness center right in the office building. Employees can either walk in early in the morning or after office hours. Exercise helps energize the body and help clear the mind. Physical activity is a great booster of employee productivity and efficiency.
Lastly, create a reward system in such programs. When addressing obesity in the office, you can set up weight loss program and contest. The biggest weight losers at the end of the program will win a prize. This will encourage weight loss in the office. Rewards can be additional wellness classes that they can take advantage outside the office.
